The deadline for the 2010-2011 Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) application process was January 11, 2010. The database is now closed. Documents are currently being processed and we will not be able to provide status updates. Please note that application forms that were submitted online by 11:59 p.m. EST January 11, 2010 or postmarked by January 11, 2010 will be processed.
Nominees who submitted their forms by the deadline will begin to receive notification in March 2010.
The selection and notification processes are as follows:
· February 2010, independent readers will complete an individualized reading and scoring assessment of eligible Nominees in three major areas:
o academic achievement,
o community service, and
o leadership potential
· March 2010, Nominees will be notified and informed if they are selected as a Candidate Finalist or not selected.
· Candidate finalists will be notified if they are selected as Gates Millennium Scholars or not selected by mid-April 2010. All selected Gates Scholars will be notified no later than May 1, 2010.

Students are eligible to be considered for a GMS scholarship if they:
• Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian and Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American; • Are a citizen/legal permanent resident or nationals of the United States; • Have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (un-weighted); • Will be enrolling for the first-time at a U.S. accredited* college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking, first-year student in the fall of 2010; or GED • Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities; • Meet the Federal Pell Grant* eligibility criteria; and • Have all three forms (Nominee Personal Information Form completed by the student, Nominator Form completed by an educator familiar with the student’s academic record and a Recommender Form completed by a person familiar with the student’s leadership and community service) submitted by the deadline.
