AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program and the GMS Alumni Association have commenced their first-ever partnership with a non-profit organization. The American Cancer Society has been selected for this collaboration because of the Society’s focus on promoting health equity across diverse and multicultural populations. Coinciding with National Minority Health Awareness Month, the official kickoff featured keynote remarks by Dr. Otis Brawley, chief medical officer for the American Cancer Society. This partnership is designed to empower the vibrant Gates Millennium Scholar population with service opportunities guided by the Society’s professional training and support. Each distinct opportunity will be targeted at specific sectors of the GMS community to mobilize in the fight against cancer and reduce cancer disparities. As Leaders for America’s Future™, it is our responsibility to do the important work of outreach to our communities in order to promote health equity.
